What is Emotional Freedom Technique?
EFT (tapping) is an empowering therapy which involves gently tapping on points of the body’s energy system (meridian/nadi) to balance its flow and freedom in areas of congestion, which can contribute to negative emotions. EFT also supports us in letting go of unhelpful patterns and limiting beliefs through increasing our awareness, allowing change.
Tapping (in the form of TFT) was developed by Dr Callahan in 1979 using ancient Eastern wisdom of the Meridians and Acupuncture. It was further developed by Gary Craig in 1997 to become ‘Emotional Freedom Technique’. Once learnt, it is a tool you have for life to tap away fears, anxieties, physical pain and stresses which can help you live the life you choose, practicing the art of letting go.
EFT also works on a physiological level and reduces excess cortisol, ‘the stress hormone’, by calming the amygdala, the limbic systems fear centre. Stress is well known to have numerous effects on our physical and emotional health which makes EFT a perfect maintenance tool!
What does an EFT session with me involve?
Your session will take place in my peaceful and private therapy room and lasts up to 90 minutes. We will have an initial confidential consultation about the main challenges you are facing. If there are a variety of core issues we will explore their backgrounds and patterns. Together we can use a range of tapping techniques and psychotherapeutic practices to ease and release your struggles allowing freedom! We can then explore positive choices you would like and using EFT allow these in to your life. Your session will conclude with a guided reflection and gentle relaxation.
Can anyone use it and what can it be used for?
Yes! EFT is a safe and easily learned technique practised by many people from all walks of life. It works brilliantly with children, teenagers, even animals as well as adults.
I will help you to get started with this exciting healing tool. It can be used for anxiety, stress, fears, phobias, allergies, addictions, physical pain and much more.
I have offered practical introduction sessions to the staff of Mind (the mental health charity) and groups from the Timebank. I have also facilitated small group tapping sessions. Please contact me if you are interested.
